I have a fairly nice shop right by my house, but they are expensive. They do the bulk (for here) packages of yarn sometimes too, but is isn't very nice yarn or it is some horrible color, yk?Sherryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08050270762088395325noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7204117.post-91112371121416261332008-12-01T14:55:00.000+09:002008-12-01T14:55:00.000+09:00Your projects look really good!!! : )Your projects look really good!!! : )Ginahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02427544303742999100noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7204117.post-18039626433451338362008-11-30T22:33:00.000+09:002008-11-30T22:33:00.000+09:00i get my yarn at the fabric/craft shop in (most) A...i get my yarn at the fabric/craft shop in (most) AEON shopping centers and malls. it's called 'pandora box'. the yarn i used in both of these projects were about 150 yen (or maybe 250?) per skein, but i only needed one for the gloves. of course, the blanket needed about 11 skeins of blue, 9 pink and three natural.

for tommy's baby blanket i used a more expensive yarn, except maybe not really, because there was more per skein (about 100 grams for 1000 yen--i had to buy three); but i also got a discount for being a member of the store (that fabric store is called 'maki' in katakana, i don't know how many there are in japan, if it's a chain store. awesome deal on knitting needles, though, 40% off for members!)

anyway, back to pandora box, once summer ended they had loads of yarn, and have a lot of 'package' yarn that's ten skeins for 980, and a few 'nicer' kinds that are ten skeins for 1480. i've got a couple of packages (first i was going to make tommy's blanket from one of those deals, but it's kinda scratchy, so i'm thinking leg warmers for me. and i'll have lots of extra yarn. darn.) i will try crocheting a wrap/shawl thing from some light colored yarn i got as a package deal.

i have also over-estimated my needs, but at 150 (or 250?) a skein, i am not too worried about it. i'll find other things to make. It is the reason I usually keep my knitting and crochet projects small.Sherryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08050270762088395325noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7204117.post-85237633714672765342008-11-30T20:05:00.000+09:002008-11-30T20:05:00.000+09:00Oh wow they both look great!I am especially impres...Oh wow they both look great!

I am especially impressed with the gloves- I have not managed to knit something so intense!!! Will have to get back into it when I return to Japan (or a little before as I might need to knit something cute for Sara`s bub!)

I love the wool & colour you choseLuluhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17391030748931575341noreply@blogger.com
