dear readers,

yesterday we went to kitakyushu to meet up with kuri and her pinglet. we met at green park, and it was a lot of fun! the wind was pretty cold, though. hiro rode a pony! and flickr now has video! look:

and here are some pictures.

and get this: i managed to get a sunburn on my chest. oops! i remembered to put sunblock on the babies, and my face, but i forgot my chest! it's pretty painful. don't worry, though, i didn't take a picture. i don't think you wanna see my red and white boobs!

now hiro, sasha and i all have colds. everyone is miserable. thankfully the medicine we got this morning from the doctor has made them pass out. hopefully we'll feel better soon.

illahee

p.s. next month's nablopomo theme is voices. uh, not sure i can pull that one off. i'll have to think about it!

dear midori,

thank you for tagging (me? hiro?) for the eight random factoid meme. here goes...

1. I have to post these rules before I give you the facts.
2. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
3. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
5. Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them they're tagged, and to read your blog.

so, random things about hiro

1. the only raw veggie hiro will eat (so far) is carrot.

2. he loves pizza from costco.

3. he loves to make tommy laugh, and often says, 'tommy so funny.'

4. he still has an afternoon nap, called 'quiet time'.

5. he can wash his own hair.

6. he doesn't dance.

7. he loves to splash in puddles with his boots

8. he can sing the ABC's perfectly now.

ok, i hope that's ok. and i think i'm done with this meme for now. i haven't tagged anyone because basically everyone has been tagged for it. thanks!

dear blog,

today yoshi had the day off, so all of us went to fukuoka city to get tommy's passport paperwork turned in. they require both parents and child to be there, so it was a bit crazy, with all five of us. we had all our paperwork, though it turns out they've recently changed the passport application, so i had to fill that out again. our appointment was at 11 am, just about the time sasha needs a morning nap, so she was in bad spirits when we left. hiro was hungry and tommy was bored, but soon after we got in the car, sasha and then tommy was asleep. hiro kept whining for lunch, but there was no where to go (unless we wanted to pay for parking) and eventually he fell asleep, too.

yoshi and i decided to go to kashiihama and have lunch there. we had a nice family day together (the first in a really long time) and i even got a new pair of glasses! i broke my old ones while playing a game on wii fit! lol

ok, it's time to get everyone in bed. good night.

dear nay,

thank you for tagging me with the random fact memo. here goes!

Here are the rules:
1) Each player starts with 8 random facts/habits about themselves.
2) People who are tagged, write a blog post about their own 8 random things, and post these rules.
3) At the end of your post you need to tag 8 people and include their names.
4) Don’t forget to leave them a comment on their blog and tell them they’ve been tagged, and to come back and read your blog for the whole story.

1. i used to be afraid of the dark when i was little, and i was convinced there were monsters and/or snakes under my bed.

2. i am mostly blind in my right eye. when i was in sixth grade, i had an eye exam at school, and afterward i saw spots in front of my right eye. i saw floating shapes, and at one point, letters falling off a cliff in those spots. eventually the spots came together to form one big spot. doctors were baffled, and now put it down to a kind of retinitis.

3. my favorite treat, ever, is chocolate covered caramel.

4. i can only wear my toe ring on a certain toe. it hurts to wear it on any other.

5. i learned how to drive a manual shift car in japan.

6. i have only been to five countries.

7. i have never learned to play a musical instrument.

8. i finished college/university in four years.

thanks nay!

sincerely,

dear lulu,

thank you for the comment the other day. in it, you asked:

"Although all this time I thought your real name was Illahee....I thought it was interesting and beautiful? Where did it come from?"

ah, illahee. i guess i've never really explained it before. well, here goes. this is illahee:

illahee on the front steps

in the summer of 1998, i worked at a state park. illahee state park, the second smallest state park in washington. i was a park aide, and i got the job because i knew the wife of the head ranger there. they need a woman park aide in case something happens in the women's public rest rooms. it was a pretty cool job, the one where i really had to clean toilets (i think maybe everyone should clean (public) toilets for a while. then we'd probably have nicer public rest rooms!!) and pick up trash, but i got to work outside and if i avoided the rangers, i could have the afternoon to myself pretending to work! lol just kidding. but i was happy if they'd tell me to go paint fence posts or something so i could kind of hide away and stay out of trouble. since it was a state job, i got paid a lot no matter how much i did. actually, my passport picture is a sunburned me in my park aide's shirt.

anyway, illahee state park is pretty much in the city of bremerton, so there are a lot of people surrounding it. there are also plenty of cats there. one morning when i was doing my rounds (first clean toilets, then empty trash cans and then walk the trails picking up garbage) i heard a cat crying. i went up a trail and saw a couple hurrying in my direction. they looked at me and then we heard another cry. the cat was right behind them and the woman said, 'this kitten just started following us!' she looked guilty to me, i think she and her husband abandoned him! i didn't say anything, just picked up the kitten and took it to the office. there were some cages there, so i put him in a cage with one of my spare shirts (he cried otherwise).

later that day, some boys brought me another kitten, a white one with a blue eye and a green eye. i carefully put him in the cage with the other kitten (which was much smaller) prepared to yank him out if he attacked, but instead he started grooming the other kitten and they've been best friends since.

that night i brought both the kittens home with me, because my parents' house is near the humane society of kitsap county, and i finished work after they closed. the plan was to take them the next morning, but by then my family wanted to keep them and that's how we acquired cats number four and five. illahee has always been mine, though he and my dad get along really well. silver (the white cat) is actually a pretty dumb cat, but he's beautiful, and illahee's best friend, so we keep him around. i miss illahee a lot, so a lot of my internet handles involve the word illahee.

i hope that answers your question.

yours,

illahee

dear blog friends,

this writing letters thing is hard. when i saw what the theme for april was, i was pretty excited. i thought, 'i can write letters every day! i used to have pen pals, how hard can it be?' well, it's hard when you don't really have anything to write about.

we're nearly half-way through the month, though, so i'll keep trying. and, by popular demand, video! (sorry about the music. we were listening to iTunes (radio) during dinner.)

look at those legs! and notice how his clothes don't fit? he's getting big!!

dear mom,

in the stroller together

as i told you, the stroller arrived today. after a frustrating struggle in the genkan with it, i finally got it assembled. then hiro kept begging to go for a walk. yoshi went to the library with tommy (i fed him just before they left) and i went for a walk with hiro and sasha. it was awesome! thanks very much, this is a terrific stroller. a little heavy, but it wasn't too hard to figure out. i just hope it fits in the gaia.

on our walk we spotted some cherry blossoms.

blossoms

and some 'fish' called 'koinobori' in japanese. this was attached to a house on the balcony. our lots aren't really big enough for the big poles these wind sock-type flags are usually flown from. good idea, really, but i doubt we'll be getting any.

P4120657

the family at this house were having a BBQ, the parents and grandparents of the little boy for whom the fish are being flown. he must be a baby because he wasn't at the party! lol (probably sleeping in the house). the wind was a bit chilly for a BBQ, but it sure did smell yummy.

well, gotta go. i hope your weekend is going well.

dear sasha,

well, what a day. i am sorry that i gave you juice, which made you pee and fill your diaper. then, later, when you had a poo (while we were grocery shopping) and maxed out your diaper, i'm sorry that i made you wait until i finished shopping. *sigh* you are too young to be embarrassed by your sagging tights, but i was. after purchase, we rushed to the baby changing area, with tommy in the stroller and hiro in the "car" shopping cart. when we got to the baby room, i took off your tights and diaper, but then i realized i didn't have any wipes. i was frantically searching in the net under the stroller when i heard you say, 'pee-pee.' and turned to see you peeing all over the changing station. OMG. poor sasha. i took you down and put you on the floor, told you to stay with hiro and rushed out into AEON and bought wipes and a pair of socks for you. i also told the clerks about the mess while apologizing. rushed back to find you and hiro running around the changing room, your poopy diaper making a smell and a very germ-phobic acting woman changing her infant. (poor first-time mother. she must have been horrified). *sigh* but, we got you changed up, the sanitation woman came and we apologized and then we hit the road. i promise to never let that happen again.

dear mom,

hi! how are you? we are doing well. spring is here, but the wind is still cold. the cherry trees are in full bloom, they're so beautiful. the best ones are the wild trees that surprise you in between other trees along a road. very pretty. i hear spring is still trying to hold on where you live. snow? in late march? crazy.

the kids and i all had colds last week, but i think we're over them now. hiro wants more medicine, though, even this morning he begged me to take him to the doctor and get some medicine! what a weird kid!!

hiro is doing great. he loves to say goddammit a lot, it's getting annoying. oh, and he LOVES to say, 'mommy? *pause* helicopter!' why?! i don't get it! grah! anyway, i think he's ready to start reading letters, anytime he sees anything written in the roman alphabet he says, 'ABC's mommy, ABC!'

speaking of ABCs, sasha loves to sing the ABC song. she doesn't sing each letter, but it's really really cute. she and hiro lug around these little alphabet books which has the alphabet on the back page, and sasha uses these to sing. she also likes to say goddammit, and it's still really cute. *sigh* she said her first sentence last night: this is hiro's pajamas. i can't believe my baby girl is growing up!

and as for babies growing up, tommy is killing me! he is almost sitting on his own, something i'm actually looking forward to, so then i think i'll start solids soon. he 'chatters' a lot, and last night he was thoroughly enjoying a game of 'peek-a-boo' with yoshi. he has changed so much since you were here, you wouldn't believe it.

yoshi and i are doing well. i wish i could lose weight, but i'm still not getting overly-serious about it. i'm going to wait just a little bit longer when i'm not so stressed out by the kids. we are enjoying the wii fit, and i just got wii sports, so at least i'm starting to stretch out and get some exercise in. yoshi had some disappointing news at work, so he talked to his bosses, and next year he might have to work in fukuoka city. that will mean longer days, but i think i'll be ok because the kids will be older. i'm hoping!

summer is coming, i can hardly wait! oh, that reminds me! sasha needs a bathing suit. hmmm.

well, i hope the weather improves there, and i'll talk to you later.

love,

kristin
