one of my earliest memories is going to my parents' room in the wee hours of the morning and asking my mommy if i could get into bed with her. getting into bed with my mom made me feel safe and warm. in my room, there were snakes and alligators under the bed, and unmentionable monsters in the closet. snuggling into mommy's bed was fun. i would stare up at the ceiling and imagine all sorts of things flying around up there. next to mommy, nothing bad could hurt me.
my children have always slept with me. well, hiro didn't for five days when i was in the hospital after giving birth to sasha. but they miss me if i'm not there. sometimes in the middle of the night, when hiro has wandered away from the futon, he'll wake up and realize where he is. he scoots over to my side and i cover him in his blankets again. the other night when this happened, he said, 'i love you.'
as you can probably tell, sleeping with my children doesn't give me much rest. but i love having them there, and they don't want to be anywhere else.

I think it is awesome that you do what works for your family. It is not unheard of here for the kids to sleep with us.
You are a wonderful Mom who knows how to love your kids. Cherish this time. Before you know it they'll be out on their own, but they'll always remember that love.
It's the best, isn't it?
This last Christmas when we went home to Canada, we slept as a family in one bedroom. It was so crazy. I got hardly any sleep because more than half of our family snores and I was worried that any noise was going to wake the baby. Then I was so tired during the day because of the lack of sleep.
I am always amazed when I hear that moms enjoy sleeping with their kids. Not that I'm against it, but I obviously don't have what it takes!
There was one moment during our Christmas vacation when I woke up in the middle of the night. There was a soft light coming through the window and I could see all the little sleeping faces of our brood. That moment was precious and you probably get to enjoy those moments a lot.
I love waking up in the morning to look over and see everyones limbs entwined, peacefully sleeping. Co-sleeping is such a beautiful thing!
We co-sleep as well. Like you said it really is a wonderful thing.
Btw, Illahee, very happy to know you had monsters in your closet j/k. I had them under my bed and in my closet, when I was younger! Phew, nice to know I wasn't alone, lol. Every night, I'd hide under the blankets, much too afraid to actually peek out and take a look. I'd tuck all my body under the blankets and fall asleep that way! I didn't want to see any "red glowing eyes" ha ha ha. Or anything equally as scary! Ahhhh, your post has made me smile just thinking about that! My mom or dad would have to come in and do a *monster check*. Come in, turn the lights on and check under the bed and closet. LOL. : )
