this afternoon hiro opened the screen door in the tatami room downstairs. that's where we sleep now, and i finally got him to sleep, but i didn't close the door. i was lying next to him, reading a book when a giant hornet flew in. i freaked out. it buzzed around the room, and i tried to open the door. there are four sliding doors between the tatami room and the living room
and i was opening the wrong one the wrong way!! the easy chair is in front of those doors, so only the one on the far side is the one you can use to get through from room to room. the hornet flew close to me. hiro slept on. i put my head down. then i pushed two of the doors the other way....the hornet got closer. i wanted to cry. how could i grab hiro and get out of there? then the hornet flew out the way it came in. i could feel my fear pouring through me, though my stomach and through my face. i closed the screen door, though i couldn't be sure it really flew out (
what if it just landed on the wall?? look! look!) but it was gone. hiro kept sleeping. and i had some juice.

it`s hard not to panic considering how deadly they can be. But at the same time, try to remember that the wasp doesn`t want to be there and if you can just guide it out and not get all freaked out then everyone is happy. Some years it seems I have one in the house every day....it really bothered me when I had little ones sleeping and they came in to the kids room.
That's so scary!
i just wanted out of the room and wait for the thing to go away!! but i was so scared that i couldn't manage the door! gah!
i worked at illahee state park for a summer...it was actually quite warm and dry that summer and the yellow jackets were easily angry!! i had to clean up the recycled cans (sweet and wet) and i'm surprised i didn't get stung that summer at all!
Scary scary! I have yet to encounter one of these beasts in person (touch wood) but I live in fear of one of them coming in. I hate insects..
We had a huge centipede (mukade) in our BED, even though we lived right in central Tokyo. It gave meaning to the phrase, "urban jungle."
I'm with Midori on this, I hate insects too! And if I were to run into a wasp, I'd absolutely freak! : )
