can you guess who is right beside me using a wet tissue to clean post it notes? his name starts with T. *sigh* i tried to get him to sleep, but he won't have any of it! he's getting really tired, but he won't go to sleep. poor little kid. i don't know what his problem is, except maybe afternoon naps. but he falls asleep, so what can we do? i guess i better take him off to bed, and go to sleep myself. but i do wish he would go to sleep at bed time....
EDIT 10:23 P.M: guess who took himself off to bed all on his own. well! guess he just wanted to go to bed when he was good and ready. poor little fella. i feel sorry for him because hiro and sasha get tired/sleepy at around eight but not little tommy! but i can't let him wander around downstairs, either, when i'm getting hiro and sasha to sleep (if only they could go to bed on their own. *sigh* i'm working on it!) well, time for me to hit the hay, too.

When i was a kid my parents used to have us race from one end of hte park to the other just before bed. We thought it was fun and didn't realize it tired us out to get us ready for bed. ;)
Gotta have clean post it notes.
We have to have a party when we both have households of children that go to sleep on their own!
What happens if you leave Hiro and Sasha in their room alone? WW3? Massive party? I started the sleeping alone thing when Meg was 3 and Amy was 1. We did the bedroom routine half an hour early, turned out the lights, left the room and just kept finding things that needed doing upstairs so I was walking past with laundry or dusting the passage (I think that was the last time I dusted the running boards....) and by day 3 they were over the excitement of being awake and alone up there. Now we have the if I can't hear you I won't go and check on you thing going on and they both lie in their beds playing with their stuffed toys till they go to sleep.
I *hate* it when people offer unsolicited advice so please ignore this if it doesn't even remotely match your situation but I thought I'd share what worked for me.
Oh, and I love the post it notes cleaning. Very important indeed!
the sleeping arrangements are...hiro and sasha don't have a room. we all sleep in the tatami room downstairs. i am so ready for the kids to have their bedrooms upstairs, but we have no beds for them. i have been campaigning for getting them beds (bunk beds or parent-child beds) but yoshi has been balking. i'll get there eventually, and hopefully a new sleeping environment will encourage them to sleep by themselves.
as it is at the moment, sasha wails, absolutely throws a fit if i don't lie down with her. i have to face her, too. hiro wants to 'look mommy' as well, but i tell him that i will once sasha falls asleep (because she will scream and flail if i don't look at her *sigh*) and poor hiro usually falls asleep before sasha does. so, i MUST lie down with them, and can't let the almost two-year-old roam the downstairs alone.... it sucks.
